Carson Ferguson wins opening night of Blue-Gray 100 at Cherokee Speedway
Banks $8,022 Hunt the Front Super Dirt Series Payday
LINCOLNTON, N.C. (10/14/25) – Carson Ferguson continued his late-season surge over the weekend, driving the Paylor Motorsports / Coltman Farms Racing No. 93 Longhorn Chassis Late Model to Hunt the Front Super Dirt Series Victory Lane in the opening round of the Blue-Gray 100 at Cherokee Speedway.
The $8,022 triumph marked Ferguson’s second win in just over a week, following a recent RUSH Late Model victory in Pennsylvania behind the wheel of the Cameron Tribble-owned entry.
“I knew the start was gonna be everything,” Ferguson said after Friday’s preliminary win. “I don’t really know what I did getting into (turn) three the first time, I totally overshot that, but I knew it was important to get the lead there. I heard somebody keep blasting the top or middle, or something, behind me. I knew if I could just keep beating the wall down on the straightaway, trying to use the whole track, trying to enter (the corners) as late as I could — yeah, just track position.”
The series doubleheader began Friday evening, with 41 competitors converging on the Gaffney, South Carolina, oval for the tour’s season finale—officially billed as the 35th annual Blue-Gray 100. Ferguson topped his 21-car qualifying group and outran cousin Chris Ferguson to win his heat race, securing a front-row starting spot for the preliminary feature.
After slipping past pole-starting Sam Seawright on the second lap, Ferguson paced the remaining 29 circuits to secure the opening-night victory.
On Saturday, Ferguson transferred into the Blue-Gray 100 finale with a third-place finish in his heat. However, his pursuit of the $35,000 payday in the 100-lap main event was cut short after a late-race pit stop. Running sixth at the time, Ferguson ducked into the pits on lap 66 for fresh tires but was later collected in a multi-car tangle after a lap-75 restart, ending his night early.

Next up, Ferguson and his fellow Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series regulars head to Eldora Speedway for the prestigious season-ending Dirt Track World Championship. The historic half-mile will host a two-day program, culminating in Saturday night’s $100,000-to-win main event. Ferguson enters the finale in ninth in the current series standings.
